Aaron grew up in the vibrant capital city of San José, Costa Rica, alongside his parents and two siblings. From an early age, he dreamed of one day becoming an American citizen and building a business in the Land of Opportunity. At just 17 years old, he persuaded his family to move to Charlotte, North Carolina. By 18, through hard work and determination, he had earned his General Contractor license and purchased his first home.
In his twenties, Aaron—now a licensed North Carolina General Contractor and minority business owner—played a key role in renovating several prominent hotels that still shape Charlotte’s skyline. During that time, he witnessed the growing challenges faced by Latino youth, including the rise of gang influence. In response, he founded Generation 5:17 Ministries, a nonprofit that organized large-scale Christian concerts and produced weekly Spanish radio programs. Through these efforts, he encouraged Latino youth to stay in school, pursue higher education, and build meaningful careers.
Aaron was mentored by Dan Ramirez, the first Latino elected to the Mecklenburg County Commission, who inspired him to consider public service. He also served on the Workforce Board of Directors for Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont and volunteered weekly to support the homeless community in Uptown Charlotte.
In his mid-twenties, Aaron attended Georgia State University in Atlanta to advance his studies in Architecture. He later pursued the Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) designation, specializing in Financial Analysis, with coursework in Toronto, Canada. While studying in Atlanta, he met his wife, Brooke. After Brooke graduated from Charlotte School of Law, the couple began their family and founded Marin Development Company—a custom homebuilding firm serving Charlotte and Lake Norman. Their homes, known for thoughtful design and exceptional craftsmanship, have received multiple awards for architectural excellence.
Today, Aaron owns United Mortgage, which now has active branches in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Maryland, and Virginia. Having achieved the American Dream of homeownership at just 18, he brings decades of combined experience in construction, architectural design, and residential mortgage lending. This unique background has shaped him into a seasoned business leader committed to helping families build better futures.
After more than 23 years of living, working, and serving in Mecklenburg County, Aaron is ready to represent the community he deeply loves and believes in.
